About
Our Mission Statement:

The Desert Communities Fuller Center for Housing is dedicated to the task of transforming sub-standard housing into decent and affordable homes and neighborhoods.  We pursue this restoration of hope and dignity through the generosity of our donors and volunteers and with the help of communities.

“We know that the resources exist to do this
–they are just not all in the right place.”
Millard Fuller

The Desert Communities Fuller Center for Housing Inc. became a reality in 2012 when a group of like-minded community leaders became concerned with the State of California’s devastating decision to withdrawal vital redevelopment funds from our communities.  There continues to be a growing shortage of low-income housing.  An increasing number of families living in the desert communities – 30% of our local population – qualify for and are in desperate need of low-income housing.  But while the needs are growing, viable options continue to evaporate.

The DCFuller Center is a 501 (c)3 non-profit organization with deep roots in the community it serves, which will cover the Morongo Basin and the Coachella Valley.   Their primary focus will support two groups from our community - veterans and families living in substandard conditions – with housing options, including construction and revitalization.

The demand for safe, affordable housing is enormous. The United Nations estimates that over one billion people around the world live in substandard housing. In the United States alone, almost two million people live with a hole in their roof, 3.7 million live with broken windows and 2.5 million live in a house where the foundation is crumbling beneath them. Just over one million people live without complete plumbing facilities. (Source: American Housing Survey, U.S. Census Bureau, 2005)
